maps.thehunthouse.net

This is a site for people who love Maps, London & History.

Visit the past to see where your ancestors lived.

An entirely new way of viewing and navigating scanned maps.
Not just pretty pictures or blurred copies but
easy to use, see, navigate and search.

I have beautiful prints of Booth's poverty Map that are bigger than my Kitchen table.
I have blurred prints of London Maps that are only useful as pictures.
I have expensive reproduction books with confusing and patchy indexes.
I have CD's with Maps that take so long to load I lose interest.

None of them are what I really want, which is: -

A large scale Street Map that displays clearly and quickly, is easy to navigate, can be enlarged and has an index of places that can be searched.
So I made my own.

Here it is.

Philips' Handy-Volume Atlas of
the County of London in 1922

A three inch to the mile Street Map
on a CD for only £14.50 (plus postage at cost)

Information and free Books about London

The entire book on one CD. See where your ancestors came from or went. 160 maps, charts and plans, 43 pages of statistics and a 15,000 place index of the World in 1898.

John Bartholomew's jingoism comes across clearly in the statistics and choice of maps in this fascinating book. The British Empire (close to it's apogee) is well represented, with plans of many major cities as well as the country, continental and other maps. There are many interesting archaic spellings.

The CD is easy to use, search and see, with several methods of navigation. You can print or copy any part to use in your own research. Every page is separately presented and enhanced for clarity, without compromising the original. Instructions and help are included.
